I do believe it's something like 2 million in jail at the
moment(http://www.cjcj.org/punishingdecade/punishing.html), out of a
population of
287 million (http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/popclock) So 1 out of every
143 people is in jail. The stats for the past 10 years are insane
really though. Mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenders have to
be looked at again. (In fact the whole drug war does). Anyway, I
couldn't find anything on innocents in jail. Just thought these were
interesting.
