I have a son that is 4 and is developmentally delayed. He has
enlarged ventricles. I recently read articles in Scientific American
(Sept 2003 Issue - great articles about the brain) and it had
information about how neurons are created mainly in the ventricles and
hippocampus. It also states that cells destined to become neurons
travel from these areas to the olfactory bulbs (don't quite understand
why). My son has always smelled his food before eating I don't know
if this is just coincidence but it makes me think that there is a
connection. It also says that Prozac augmented Neurogenesis for
depression.
My question is has Prozac or other depression drugs been tried on
developmentally delayed children?
Is my logic sound?
Where could I go for more information on drugs and neurogenesis?
