Whipworm

Birdie - whipworms are found in the large intestine not the small 
intestine.  The burrow their heads into the lining of the large intestine 
and have their entire bodies hanging out.  If she was scoped they could 
not be missed, especially if she had a heavy enough infection to be 
symptomatic.
