Dear Scientist,

EMBO is happy to announce the launching of the Young Investigator
Programme. The programme is open to scientists who are within the first
three years of obtaining an independent laboratory at a research institute
in an EMBC-Member Country. They should be working in the very broadly
defined area of Molecular Biology. Applicants should be supported by funds
from other sources, such that they have a viable group for the period of
the award, as the programme will not be a source of funding for the core
requirements of the group. They should normally have between two to eight
years of post doctoral scientific experience and an excellent publication
record.
EMBO is hoping to award a total of 30-50 groups at a time for a three-year
period. It is expected that the distinction by EMBO will add the prestige
of the organisation to the scientist's credentials and improve the chances
of receiving funding at the national and international level. The Programme
will also encourage and support interactions between the selected groups by
holding a yearly meeting at the EMBL and will provide funds for specialist
meetings or visits among groups. A monetary award will be paid by most of
the EMBC Member States to EMBO Young Investigators from their countries.
The award will amount to EUR 15 000 per year for a period of 3 years in
countries that decide to participate in the scheme. EMBO itself has pledged
EUR 1 500 000 into a pool, which will be used to provide topping up. The
topping-up is at the discretion of the EMBO Selection Committee and could
cover, e.g., the cost of a post-doctoral salary (~EUR 30 000, depending on
country).

For further information and application forms, please see our web-site:

Please relay this information to interested scientists in your institute or
elsewhere.

All the best
