Thanks to everyone who wrote to tell me that axolotls really DO have a gall
bladder. For those of you who were wondering, everyone says that it looks
just you'd expect -- green, right beside the liver.
The event that prompted my initial question was that I dissected an adult
axolotl yesterday and couldn't find the gall bladder. I thought I knew
what I was looking for, because I've dissected it out of mudpuppies before.
Three colleagues also poked around in that axolotl and none of us could
see anything like a gall bladder. Just one of those things, I guess.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the reassurance. I hope I can find it next time!
