Regeneration biologists and others will be saddened to learn of the death of Richard J. Goss yesterday (21 November) at his home in Barrington, Rhode Island, at age 71. Dr. Goss was a long-time Professor of Biology at Brown University and formerly Dean of the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown. One of the premier students of regenerative processes in amphibians, fishes, and mammals, Dr. Goss was the author of numerous studies on many different features of growth and repair, including several fundamental aspects of urodele appendage regeneration. He was also the author of several excellent monographs on tissue growth and repair, including Principles of Regeneration, and edited many other volumes. His influence in the field of regeneration will persist for many years.
