Tony Neff just called my attention to 3 "hot off the press" papers which
should give hope to all who aspire to make transgenic amphibia:

1. FEBS Letters 423: 117-121 (1998)---it validates the original Amaya
method, by inserting a foreign gene (fragment of eye rod opsin gene)
in Xenopus, and observing its expression.

2. Nature Biotechnology 16:253-257 (1998)---provides a SIMPLER method:
bracket a plasmid containg a foreign gene with adenovirus inverted
terminal repeat sequences and inject directly into fertilized eggs.

3. Nature Biotechnology 16:233-234 (1998) entitled "Turning the frog into
a princely model" summarizes #2.

cheers, gmm
