Hydroponics and arabidopsis

I was supervising a final year honors student who used hydroponics to avoid
root competition in a resource allocation experiment using arabidopsis. It's
the first time we've used the plant as experimental material, and it failed
to grow - 80% death. Same seed source gave 97% survivorship in other parts
of the experiment. 
 Has anyone grown arabidopsis under hydroponics before and would be 
willing to part with recipies?
