Database Specialists/Postdoc in Plant Genomics Group at TIGR

Scope of Research:

As part of the AGI, we have beening sequencing the chrosome II of
Arabidopsis genome. In addition, we are developing a comprehensive
annotation database for the whole genome. In anticipation of additional
funding to continue these efforts, we are looking for people to
participate in the sequnce data analysis and annotation. The successful
candidates will gain experience in many aspects of bioinformatics,
including use of relational databases and many computer tools developed at
TIGR and other sites. They will work actively in annotating the genomic
sequence using predictive algorithms and homology searches to identify
potential genes, and perform additional analyses. No lab work is expected
for these positions.

Education/Skills required:

ƒ Master of Science or Ph.D. degree in biology.
ƒ Molecular Biology experience essential, and plant biology
background desirable.
ƒ Strong computer skills advantageous, but programming skill not
required.
	ƒ Detail-oriented, team player.

About TIGR:

The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) is a not-for-profit
research institution with interests in structural, functional, and
comparative analysis of genomes and gene products in viruses, eubacteria,
pathogenic bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes, both plant and animal (see
http://www.tigr.org). TIGR is located in the vicinity of Washington DC,
and is composed of four academic departments with more than 165 staff and
faculty members. The goal of TIGR is to bring scientists together in a
collaborative environment to identify and characterize novel genes and
gene families through the application of DNA sequence analysis,
bioinformatics, gene expression and model organism studies. TIGR offers a
stimulating research environment, and a competitive compensation and
benefits package. TIGR is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages
qualified women and minority candidates to apply.
