POSTDOCTORAL POSITION--MITOCHONDRIAL DNA--SEATTLE

A postdoctoral fellowship is available for two years beginning after
August 1, 2002 to study the structure and replication of chromosomal DNA
molecules within plant mitochondria. We wish to determine the nature of the
'blockage' at the ends of linear mtDNA molecules: is it due to a bound
topoisomerase or some other protein involved replication, recombination or
repair, or to an unusual DNA conformation such as a G quartet? Since
blockage at the ends is a general feature of DNA extracted from prokaryotes
and eukaryotes, the work has relevance to the structure and replication of
chromosomal DNA molecules in general.
The analytical techniques include DNA Moving Pictures, which produce
spectacular images of intact chromosomal DNA molecules as long as 100
megabases.
These articles provide a background to the work.
