Job description-- A postdoctoral research position in the area of
orthopaedic biomechanics and bioimaging is immediately available at
the Center for Biomedical Engineering Research in the Department of
Mechanical Engineering. The research mainly involves experimental and
theoretical studies of transport of biomolecules in bone and cartilage
using small animal models and bioimaging techniques. We are looking
for a highly motivated and independent individual to participate in
two NIH-funded projects on osteoarthritis and bone mechanotranduction.
The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable based on
reasonable progress. Competitive salary and benefits are provided.
Work environment-- The successful candidate will join a dynamic
interdisciplinary research group including engineers, biologists, and
clinicians that recently won an $11 million NIH-COBRE grant on
osteoarthritis, and a $1.6 million NIH grant on bone
mechanotransduction study. The candidate will have access to many
excellent resources include the state-of-the-art core facilities in
the Biotechnology Institute and an animal facility adjacent to our
Center. A strong mentoring network and support system has been
established and shows great success in promoting career development
for junior researchers (such as getting grants from NIH and NSF).
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a doctorate degree in
biomedical engineering, or engineering fields with biological
experience (for example, connective tissue biomechanics, histology,
cell biology, or animal models). Experiences in light and laser
scanning microscopy are required. Skills in mathematical /
computational modeling are desirable. Previous publications in
international peer reviewed journals are required. Independence,
creativity, and good communication skills are essential.
