Transfer of Knowledge required to understand cross-talk between host and
pathogen during gastrointestinal infections in humans (GAMIDI)
Experienced Researchers
Applications are invited for two experienced researcher (ER) posts
available at the National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway, Ireland
resulting from the award of an EU 6th Framework Marie Curie Transfer of
Knowledge Grant - Transfer of knowledge required to understand
cross-talk between host and pathogen during gastrointestinal infections
in humans (GAMIDI). The Human Pathogen Cluster, located at the
Department of Microbiology, will conduct research in the usage of
advanced technologies to investigate interaction between the human host
and key gastrointestinal bacterial pathogens.
NUI Galway is one of Ireland's foremost centres of academic excellence.
With over 15,000 students, it has a long established reputation of

close to Lake Corrib and is on the Western Atlantic Seaboard. The
University is some ten minutes walk from the city centre.

though it still retains a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Whilst Galway
is a family-orientated city, it has one of the fastest growing
populations in Western Europe. Galway is also one of the most popular
tourist destinations in the country. The city, with its medieval
streets, waterways, extensive range of shopping facilities, wealth of
music sessions and other cultural events, is a place to be treasured.
The seaside town of Salthill, a Galway suburb, is a renowned summer
resort.
GAMIDI-ER3: Effect of Sub-clinical Concentrations of Antimicrobials on
the Competition and Selection of Human-Gut Microflora. Candidates should
have experience in operating continuous culture systems A degree of
competency in the mathematics of chemostat culture would be desirable.

GAMIDI-ER5: Proteomic characterisation of the adaptive acid tolerance
response of Campylobacter jejuni. Preference will be given to
candidates with a background in protein analysis methodologies, with
emphasis on the application of proteomics. (Principal Investigator: Dr.
Cyril Carroll, e.mail : cyril.carroll from nuigalway.ie).
The positions are tenable for 24 months and salaries are based on the
Marie Curie ER scales (c.a. EUR.5000/mth). Candidates must be eligible
under FP6 Marie Curie Fellowship regulations. The deadline for is March
16th, 2007.
