Software Engineer
Grade: 6 or 7, depending on experience and qualifications

Job description: A central goal of the EBI is to provide a comprehensive
and reliable set of network services for data retrieval and
computational analysis of biological data. These services are highly
visible to the molecular biology research community and require constant
support and development to remain state-of-the-art. We are currently
recruiting a software engineer to join our External Services team and
help develop our range of bioinformatics network services.

Qualifications and experience: The successful candidate must be fluent
in Perl and Java development as well as being well acquainted with Unix,
Linux and web servers such as Apache and Tomcat. A university degree in
a computer science-related subject and at least one years practical
experience is essential (or relevant work experience) as is experience
in the development and maintenance of web-based bioinformatics
applications (ideally development and deployment of SOAP/REST-based web
services). Good communication skills, the ability to work independently
as part of a wider team and a desire to provide a service for users are
required.
Contract: An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the
successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at
the time of review.
