if you are thinking about single celled things, they don't "feel" anything.
They have metabolism which performs the "feeling"
There are
receptors/promoters/transporters/inhibitors/kinases/phosphatases/other
unknown mechanisms which guide behaviour.
extrapolating from aq single celled organism to a human is not a good idea.
