Dear Professors, Colleagues and Friends
Kindly share the announcement below with those who may be interested: thank you in advance.
Sincerely
John Edward
BCBGC-08 Draft paper submission deadline is extended.
The 2008 International Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics and Chemoinformatics (BCBGC-08) (website: www.PromoteResearch.org ) will be held during July 7-10 2008 in Orlando, FL, USA. The draft paper submission deadline is extended until February 19 2008 due to several requests from the authors. The conference will be held at the same time and location where several major events (see below) will be taking place.
BCBGC brings together both academic and industrial scientists and developers from a diverse range of disciplines including bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, proteomics and chemoinformatics. One of the main goals of the conference is to promote the dissemination of research to a multidisciplinary audience and to facilitate communication among researchers in different fields. Papers that demonstrate applications of existing techniques or developments of new methods are equally welcomed to the conference.
Sincerely
John Edward

Message-ID: <47AC3977.3080702@flymine.org>
We have released version 11.0 of FlyMine.
The D. melanogaster genome has been updated to release 5.5 from FlyBase,
expression data related to Tiffin motifs have been added and many other
data sources are updated. We have also added new widgets and improved
menus on results and list analysis pages.
We have changed the way we present orthologue data from InParanoid to
make it simpler and more obvious. Orthologues and Paralogues now appear
in a single Homologue class which has a type of 'orthologue' or
'inParalogue', we no longer use the terms 'main' and 'secondary'. We
have also added an orthologue conversion section to analysis pages of
gene lists.
For a list of all changes see http://www.flymine.org/release-notes.shtml

Does anyone know the best way to remove the peripodial epithelium from

do it before or after fixing the tissue?
Thanks.

Subject: [Drosophila] picospritzer
Message-ID: <5b26f17e0802191116ua82e14as48c5257546d76512@mail.gmail.com>
Hello all in Fly land...
I am writing a budget for a grant (bone crushing futility etc but make
believe is fun) and need a picospritzer. Or some facsimile thereof.
Ie., something that has been tried and tested for the delivery of
small quantities of DNA into the butt ends of fly embryos. So in the
course of looking for the company that makes the picospritzer
(technically the Picospritzer III) I can only find a joint operating
from the UK. Seems to me there should be a branch/company/etc more
local? i.,e mainland US? Bottom line is i need a quote from a
company, so here is my question:
-does anyone know how to contact said company that makes these things?
Please give me the email/address/contact?
-does anyone have an alternative? I will welcome advice from those
among you with very strong arms using syringes, and i will surely try,
but would prefer a machine like a picospritzer - any suggestions?
Together with company names/contacts etc.
Grant is due 25 Feb.
Many thanks,
Sandra

Hi Sandra!
I never tested them for DNA-injection, but the devices from WPI work
well in our lab.
Try a web-search for "picopump" with your favorite search engine.
E.G. Google?s first hit leads to the WPI homepage.
I hope this helps,

Dear fly community,
Does any one know any pair of GFP primers that work nicely for fly
genotyping by PCR (single fly genomic quick prep)? I have already tried
several combinations that amplify nicely from plasmids but not from genomic
DNA. :-(
If anyone could give me those magic sequences I would be very grateful.
Cheers,

Message-ID: <47C1EB7F.5D69.009D.0@ScrippsCollege.edu>
Hello Drosophila Community,
I'm looking for a good protocol, or even just general tips for making protein extracts from third-instar larvae and adult flies. I'm dealing with a very large protein, and I'm having a lot of trouble avoiding degradation. Grinding adults/larvae/salivary glands directly in boiling SDS loading buffer hasn't worked, nor has one protocol where I included protease inhibitors at every step. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ivy
