TECHNICIAN POSITION: GLOBAL CARBON CYCLE MODELING

DEPARTMENT OF PLANT BIOLOGY
CARNEGIE INSTITUTION OF WASHINGTON

A position is available, starting as early as 1 September 1996, for
a full-time technician to work with a group of graduate students,
post-docs, and faculty in developing, testing, and exercising a computer
model of the terrestrial carbon cycle. The model links ecology,
biogeochemistry, climate, and remote sensing to simulate plant growth and
soil organic matter dynamics at the global scale, for current and future
conditions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for code maintenance
and testing (in C), for implementing new features of the model, and for
conducting and analyzing experiments designed by other members of the
research group. The successful applicant should have sufficient background
in ecology and biogeochemistry to function as a member of the science team.

REQUIREMENTS: Background in Biology, Biogeochemistry, and
                        Computer Modeling.
Proficiency in C and familiarity with FORTRAN,
preferably in a UNIX (Sun) environment.
Familiarity with software for scientific visualization,
                        especially IDL.

SALARY: $25K/yr or higher, depending on experience.
                The position includes full benefits.
