There is no noninvasive method in assessing diffusive function of
lung in laboratory animals. Recently, I developed a procedure and
is very similar to DLCO in humans. The procedure is very simple
and noninvasive. The technique will provide the carbon monoxide
uptake by the animal at certain period of time along with
ventilation frequency. I run some experiments using mice and this
device. I measured carbon monoxide uptake in untreated mice and
after treatment with anesthetic agents. I observed that carbon
monoxide uptake was significantly decreased in anesthetized mice
as expected. If anybody is interested about the technique, please
e-mail your postal address. I will be happy to send you all the
information about lung function procedure in laboratory animals.
