Colorado State University, Oklahoma State University, and University of
Nebraska researchers, paired with input from a committee of expert breeders,
growers, physiologists, and agronomists from some of the top companies in
agriculture are offering a short course in plant breeding for drought
tolerance June 14-June 25, 2010 in Fort Collins, CO. The course will consist
of a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on lab exercises, and field
research in a drought breeding program at experimental field sites in
Eastern Colorado and Western Nebraska. Prior to the short course, students
will complete an online series of instructional modules to provide a common
background in breeding and physiology concepts. Students will first review
and discuss these concepts and later become skilled at them in hands-on lab
and field exercises. The course is designed for professionals in the public
and private sectors as well as for graduate students in plant breeding and
genetics programs. Please visit the Plant Breeding for Drought Tolerance
website at http://www.droughtadaptation.org for further program details and
registration information.
