A postdoctoral with the Maize Genome Database is available immediately,
and will include research opportunity in any area consistent with maize
genomics. Responsibilities with MaizeDB are to plan and to develop
entry and presentation of data on maize, specifically on genetic
analysis of measurable traits and Quantitative Trait Loci; plant
development and anatomy; and physiological responses. The appointee
will participate in planning, consultation, and communication with
scientists in maize and other crops on data compilation, and on data
structuring in the maize genome database. Conduct of the project
requires detailed knowledge pertinent to maize improvement; experimental
design and testing; pests, pathogens, and stresses; and familiarity with
the application of biotechnological methods in genetics and plant
breeding research directed to solving crop problems. The research
literature in this subject area is extensive and wide-ranging, requiring
broad experience in the comprehensive study and extraction of
information to evaluate, merge, and represent the information in
database form. Originality is needed in interacting and communicating
vigorously with other scientists, exchanging ideas, and joint planning
of the design and entry of data. Skill in data handling, and in
database structures, is expected of candidates. A Ph.D. in plant
breeding/crop science, with substantial background and experience in
maize genetics, QTL analysis, and crop improvement, is required. Send
