INFORMATICS POSITIONS AT TIGR
The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) has an active plant genome
program that includes structural and functional genomics. Two new
projects, rice genome sequencing/annotation and potato functional
genomics, will begin this fall and positions for informatic personnel
are available. The rice and potato genome projects will complement
existing plant genome projects at TIGR that include Arabidopsis
genome sequencing and annotation, Arabidopsis microarray analysis,
Arabidopsis disease resistance mechanisms, tomato EST sequencing,
construction of plant gene indices, and development of computational
methods for plant genomics (http://www.tigr.org/tdb).
Bioinformatics Analyst- 3 positions
Three positions for Bioinformatic Analysts are available. Two
Bioinformatic Analysts positions are available in the rice genome
project which will involve annotation of rice genomic DNA using gene
prediction programs and database searches. A third position is
available for a functional potato genome project that involves
annotation of ESTs and analysis of gene expression using microarrays.
Education/Experience and Skills/Abilities Required:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science or
related field required. Familiarity working with computers in the
field of biological sciences performing duties similar to the above.
Familiarity with SYBASE RDBMS or other relational databases,
Structured Query Language (SQL), Unix, Perl, and basic molecular
biology as it related to DNA sequences. Effective software
engineering and project management skills. Excellent organization and
time management skills. Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and
shift priorities simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills; ability
