Please find enclosed a jobdescription for a PhD student
The Laboratory of Plant Breeding of Wageningen University has a position open
for a
PhD student (Assistent in Opleiding; m/f)
in the project entitled "Production of Novel Starches using Sucrases". This
project is part of the running research programme "Biosynthesis and
modification of polymeric carbohydrates".
The PhD student will conduct molecular biological and biochemical research
into enzymes responsible for the biosynthesis of polymeric carbohydrates like
dextrans and mutans. The genes will be isolated and the enzymes will be
expressed using an in vitro expression system in E. coli after which the
characteristics of the enzymes will be determined. Genes encoding suitable
enzymes will be expressed in different compartments in the potato tuber.
Analysis of the polymers will be done using a.o. HPLC and NMR.
Willingness and ability to work in a team is a prerequisite.
Further information can be obtained from Prof. Dr. R.G.F. Visser.
Email: Richard.Visser at users.pv.wau.nl.
The PhD student will be offered a contract for 4 years at Wageningen
University and is expected to finish the contract with a PhD thesis. The PhD
student will participate in the Graduate School Experimental Plant Sciences.
Applications accompanied by a curriculum vitae as well as names and addresses
of two people able to give references can be send to Prof. Dr. Richard Visser,
Lab voor Planteneveredeling, Postbus 386, 6700 AJ Wageningen.
