The US National Science Foundation-funded Research Coordination Network (RCN) on Pollen Biology (www.pollennetwork.org) announces a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Workshop with a focus on pollen to be held on May 13-14, 2014 (Tuesday and Wednesday). It will be followed by the Fourth Annual Pollen RCN meeting, starting on the evening of May 14 and ending at 3pm on May 15 2014 (Thursday). Both the NGS Workshop and the fourth annual Pollen RCN meeting will be held at the UNC Charlotte City Center Campus.

The Pollen NGS workshop will be part of WiNGS, a broader NGS-related symposium hosted by the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. The WiNGS Symposium (May 13) will feature research talks based on the utility of NGS technology in plant biology, including topics related to plant reproduction. The WiNGS Workshop (May 14) will use data sets generated from experiments investigating some aspects of pollen biology. The Workshop will include both theoretical concepts as well as hands-on time for participants to use the NGS data set for computational analysis. Continuation and expansion of the NGS data analysis will be part of the Fourth Annual Pollen RCN meeting, which will also include talks on pollen biology topics selected from abstracts submitted by participants.
