Butanol extraction

I understand a butanol extraction when extracting DNA serves to
remove water and nothing else. Is there anything else butanol
does?

I'm extracting DNA from poor substrates and concentrating it in a
minicon, so see little point for a butanol step. The more steps
the more chance oflosing DNA right??

Does anyone know whether the butanol does something other than
what I'm aware of?
