There are several auxotropic strains that can be used for supF
selection. I prefer to use a strain called MC1061/p3 which contains
an episome, p3, that has Amp-amber and Tet-amber genes. A simple
Amp/Tet selection is sufficient to select for the supF containing plasmid.
MC1061/p3 is available from Invitrogen. I think that BRL also sells a
strain with the p3 episome called DH10B/p3.
