filter tips

Has anyone come up with any ingenious cost saving ways of making 
aerosol barrier filter tips or similar, for use in PCR. Filter tips 
seem very expensive for what they are. Can we buy the filters and 
make our own or are there things that can be used as filters. I 
realise that the cost of such pipette tips is justified but surely 
someone out there has cut down on the cost!
If anyone has a reply could they send it to me (as well as the list?) 
at BGYCSW at LEEDS.AC.UK as I am experiencing some network difficulties
