Well, what we do, which is based on a methods paper by O'Day is to grow
a 50 ml culture of the bacteria to an OD = 0.8. Wash them with
sulfate-free M9 medium. Reinnoculate into fresh sulfate-free M9 and
incubate for 15 min. Then add 5mCi of TransLabel (from ICN). If you're
expressing protein from a plasmid, add your inducer at this point. We
then incubate an additional 4 hrs, and voila, labeled proteins.
