BSE and Scrapie

For some reason the scrapie agent seems very bad at jumping species, although 
it is probably where BSE originated from. However, once it 
changed/evolved/mutated into the BSE form it seems much more able to jump 
between species. I think the present species count infected from BSE 
infected cattle/beef is over 30 now.
