There have been a few posts recently to this list regarding the use
of log transformation of plate counts to determine errors. I'm
wondering how this would effect the errors on a proportion
determined from a differential plate (eg an X-gal plate for
calculation of the proportion of Bgal+ plasmid-containing colonies).
I have always thought that the errors on these data are binomially
distributed.
