Granulation close to membrane

hello
I'm searching informations about "granulations" (small spherical and 
black bodies) that can be seen in phase contrast microscopy of E. coli.
These granulations are localized very closed of the membrane in the cell 
and are 5 to 10 by cell.
Any information (bibliography, biochemicals data, microscopy data) are 
wellcome.
