I have Interstitial Cystitis. I delved into researching what could
be the cause of this disease. Yes I know many doctors/researchers have
*tried* but I am the patient....the sufferer....and I think we the
victims look at it differently. I KNOW how I got mine. It started
with my first UTI that I KNOW that I got when taking care of my disable
mother who came down with a UTI. I am in the process of obtaining her
records to see what bacteria it was that caused her UTI. I am sure it
will be the same as the ones that have been found in me.
My question is this: There is a Dr. Paul Fugazzotto; a microbiologist
that has been in the business since about 1939 and is about 80 years
old. He is the only one I know that can culture out the urine of an IC
patient and find the pathogen. He uses a long process that has to do
with a broth wash and centrifuging then growing it in agar for a few
days, sometimes longer. He usually finds Enterococcus and sometimes
micrococcus and even occasionally pseudomonas or other streptococci.
Does anyone use this method he uses?? If not......why not??? I am
doing so much better on the antibiotics that he has suggested (and
tested against the Enterococcus) that I wonder why we can't convince
doctors and labs to do the same. They only want to count growth and if
there isn't a certain number, they don't look for it.
