Eutrophic lake water,
is still pretty thin stuff, so - don't use any medium that is too rich. 
Avoid Nutrient Agar and similar medical type concoctions. My first 
choice would be to get some tryptic soy broth and try it at a few 
different concentrations (e.g. 1%, 0.3% 0.1 % w/v) and solidify the 
medium with the best quality pure agar (or agarose) you can afford.
