euglena culture

I am a tropical fish breeder who tries to culture live foods for feeding
baby fish. In my attempts to culture Daphnia Magna, green water seems to
be very effective but I keep killing starter cultures of euglena. I
occasionally have green water by accident but I can't reliably culture it.
Does anyone have experience culturing by chemicals or organic
decomposition that can help me? My water has a PH of 7.8 and a hardness of
300 ppm, is this acceptable for euglena. If not, can I adjust the water or
do I have to use distilled water. For lighting I have been using
flourescent plant grow tubes left on 24 hours a day, is this OK. I am very
frustrated, about 2 years ago, I had a tank that got so green that you
couldn't see thru 2 inches of it. Now that I'm trying to culture it, I
can't even get a green tint.
