The hypothesis has been reviewed by numerous doctors in the fields
of immunolgy, microbiology, neurology, gastroenterology, and by a
physician
that has studied clostridial neurotoxins for 20+ years. It is
scientifically
sound...but, as yet, unproven. I am hoping that some of you will take the
time to read the hypothesis through, give it some thought and offer
suggestions on *how* to proceed with proving/disproving the hypothesis.
In brief, I propose that excessive use of broad spectrum antibiotics
disrupted the protective flora of the intestinal tract. During this time,
a
neurotoxin-producing bacterium of the clostridial family becomes an
established member of the intestinal flora. Via the vagus nerve, the
neurotoxin ascends to the CNS where it disrupts the release of
neurotransmitters, resulting in the behavioral symptoms present in
some cases of autism and schizophrenia.
I am not trying to make any global claims about these two conditions, but
propose that this is a possibe cause for *some* cases of autism and
schizophrenia.
