Interests Sea ice and Meromictic lakes biodiversity: The current major area of Antarctic 
biological research is sea ice ecology. I am exploring sea ice biodiversity. Most sea

Interests: Understanding the factors stabilizing Halophilic proteins in particular 
Malate dehydrogenase from Archaebacteria. Recently the 3D structure of the first
Halophilic enzyme,malate dehydrogenase (hMDH) has been solved (Science Vol 267 pp 
1344-1346 (1995). Comparison of the structures of some thermophilic proteins to that of 
hMDH have shown that they share similar stabilizing factors, in particular large amount 
of salt bridges.
