The book you might want to look at is Thomas Brock's "Emergence of Bacterial
Genetics" published by CSH Press. Also, Judson's "Eight Day of Creation",
which is to be re-issued in updated form, also by CSH Press. I have a
biography of Max Delbruck at home, but can't recall the title.
