On the local news here in California, the California Dept. of Public
Health laboratory spokesman has reported that California strawberries
have been extensively tested at all levels, from field to shipping, and
have been found to be free of cyclospora. The Texas agency that issued
the alert blaming California strawberries for this outbreak should
investigate further to find the source of the infection. This scare is
reminiscent of the cranberry and apple false alarms that devastated the
growers in those crops. I am eating beautiful California strawberries
every day and I feel fine. I am a microbiologist with no connection
to the strawberry industry. Melinda Daugherty
