This one-day interactive demonstration of Internet resources for
molecular biology is directed toward those working in the biological
sciences, e.g., biobusiness, bioinformatics, bioethics, bioeconomics, and
education, who need a better perspective on databases, software tools,
and data analytical techniques specific to molecular biology.
All instructors are molecular biologists with extensive experience in
bioinformatics and use of the Internet. All demonstrations will be on a
large screen and graphics presentations will be in George Mason
University's virtual reality laboratory.
Retrieving and interpreting information in genome-specific and
macromolecular sequence databases will be emphasized--for example, how to
query databases by text and sequence, how to find related bibliographic
and genome-specific information, how to analyze sequences. An electronic
tutorial on disk will be provided to enable participants to revisit all
World Wide Web sites demonstrated during the workshop. It is expected
that participants be familiar with the basic terminology of molecular
biology, although not necessarily skilled in molecular techniques.
Limited to 50 participants
FEE: $125.00 (includes lunch)
0.7 CEUs
