Drigalski agar is a general purpose selective medium. It is less selective than
MacConkey agar, thus Enterococci may be seen. Drigalski agar is quite popular in
South-Western Sweden. If it used together with blood agar one may be able to
judge if Staphylococci, E.coli, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc. are
present in the clinical sample.

APPL General purpose selectiv medium in clinical bacteriology.
INGR Nutrient agar ....................... 1000 ml
Lab Lemco Oxoid L29 ............. 10.0 g
Bact. Peptone, Oxoid L34 ........ 10.0 g
Sodium chloride, NaCl,puriss .... 5.0 g
Agar ............................ 14.0 g
Lactose puriss ...................... 10.0 g
Sodiumthiosulfate,Na2S2O3x5H2O ...... 1.0 g
Bromthymolblue, 0.2% ................ 40 ml
Cristalviolet, 0.1% ................. 5 ml
PREP Dissolve by heating. Autoclave 120øC for 20 min. Cool to approx.
50øC before pouring the medium.
