i have been examining the epidemiology and typing of MRSA for 2 years. has
anyone compared the pulsed field gel electrophoresis patterns of MRSA ( using
sma1 as the restriction enzyme) with the MSSA present in the same
institution. could it be possible that these methicillin sensitive strains
are capable of gaining the mecA gene by horizontal transfer? where did mecA
originate from, was it really from E.coli. and is it really possible that
this transfer of genes only occured once? evidence points against this view.
i would be grateful for any findings you have on the typing patterns of MRSA
found within an institute
thank-you
