The ATCC in Rockville (MD) distributes both the ECOR and SARA
collections. However, this is _very_ expensive (e.g. 72 * 90 US$ for the
complete ECOR collection sent to the U.K. = almost US$ 6500!) A very
useful collection, SARB, with a few representative strains of the SARA
collection, as well as a collection of other medically important serovars
of Salmonella is available from the Salmonella Genetic Stock Centre
(there is a webpage at: www.ucalgary.ca/~kesander), Dr. Sanderson, in
Calgary, Alberta. For other species and genera of Enterobacteriaceae,
everything depends on what kind of strains you are looking for. If it is
'international reference strains' you will have to contact strain
collection centres (NCTC, London, or ATCC &c.). The CCUG, University of
Gothenburg, Sweden (also on the web, I believe) provides excellent
services with reasonable prices. Clinical microbiology colleagues may
help you out with fresh clinical isolates (we certainly would), however,
availability of the more 'exotic' species and number of strains are
usually limited.
