Would need more specific info on type of experiments planned.
Pathogenicity of salmonellae for mice does not parallel human
pathogenicity. Probably all salmonellae are more or less pathogenic for
humans. Most strains would cause gastroenteritis, and sometimes more
serious disease in humans, but only a few will produce illness in mice
(usually fatal systemic infections). Those isolates would invariably be
pathogenic for humans. I doubt that the available 'nonpathogenic' vaccine
strains of Salmonella will produce any significant disease in mice.
