Dear Sally,
I don't know the purpose of your experiment.
If you are checking tissue culture for mycoplasma
contamination. May be it is better to use DNA
probe for bacterial ribosomal RNA. I did this
when I was a graduate student - long time ago.
It is much more sensitive than culturing.
I found that culturing mycoplasma is a pain in
the neck.
I also have tried the fluorescent dye method
(Hoesch..something), but it did not work
in my hands.
You can search the literature, and find out who
has the probe. If my memory serves me right,
the paper is in Science.
Hope my 2 cents helps.
