Many fungi can be induced to sporulate in submerged culture - shake
flasks or fermenters. see Vezina & Singh 1975 Ch.9 In The Filamentous
Fungi V.1 Industrial Mycology or more recently try Silman & Nelsen FEMS
Microbiology Letters 107 (1993)273-278 or Jackson & Bothast 1990 Appl.
Environ. Microbiol. 56: 3435-3438. How successful you are varies from
species to species and you often have to play around with the recipe -
C/N ratio etc. but when it does work it sure beats Roux bottles or trays
of grain/bran etc.
