		>>>>>>>ANAEROBIC BACTERIOLOGY WORKSHOP<<<<<<<
			March 10-11, 1997, Rockville, MD

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend a two-day
Anaerobic Bacteriology Workshop sponsored by the American Type Culture
Collection (ATCC) and taught by Dr. Diane Citron, Associate Director of
the R.M. Allen Research Laboratory. This hands-on workshop will be held
on March 10-11, 1997 at the ATCC laboratories in Rockville, Maryland.
This workshop is intermediate to advanced level and is therefore intended
for individuals with some background knowledge of anaerobes. Enrollment
is limited to 24 participants.

For this workshop only, you will receive a 10% discount if you register 30
or more days before the first day of the workshop (normally 60 days).

This workshop will present seven hours of lecture and seven hours of
laboratory. The lectures will describe the clinical relevance of anaerobic
bacteria, toxicity of oxygen, proper specimen collection and transport,
initial processing of specimens, use of selective media, rapid and
conventional methods for identification, and conventional and newer
methods for susceptibility testing. Also included will be an update of the
recent relevant taxonomic changes, and laboratory diagnosis of Clostridium
difficile disease.

The laboratory will present 30 unknowns that participants will identify to
varying levels using rapid methods, biochemical fermentation systems,
performed enzyme kits, and gas-liquid chromatography where necessary.
Susceptibility testing using broth micro-dilution will be discussed, and
participants will set up the "E-test" for MIC determination.

This program is intermediate to advanced level and is intended for
individuals with some background knowledge of anaerobes.
