CONVOCATION
III COURSE ON TROPICAL MEDICINE AND PARASITOLOGY
UNESCO CHAIRS - UNIVERSITY OF GRANADA
The University of Granada hereby publishes the call for
applications for places on the III Course on Tropical Medicine and
Parasitology, planned under the auspices of the UNESCO Chairs -
University of Granada joint programme. Under Annex I to this call
invitations are likewise made to apply for grants to participate on
the course.
BASIC CONTENT OF THE COURSE
SUBJECTS
Geographical regions and climates; Clinical epidemiology;
Malnutrition and illness; A detailed study of the commonest
tropical diseases caused by helminths, protozoa, fungi, bacteria
and viruses, with special emphasis upon their clinical, diagnostic
and epidemiological aspects.
LECTURERS
As in the previous courses, the lectures will be given by staff and
research workers of renowned prestige from both public and private
institutions from many different countries.
APPLICANTS
Applicants for the course should be graduates who wish either to
gain a basic grounding or to bring themselves up to date in the
subjects offered, all of which will be taught by specialists in
each field.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COURSE
VENUE: The Faculty of Sciences,
Campus Fuentenueva, Granada.
DATE: Beginning 8 September 1997.
TIMETABLE: From Mondays to Fridays, mornings and
afternoons.
NUMBER OF HOURS: 120
DIPLOMA AWARDED: All those participants who attend a minimum
of 108 hours will be awarded a diploma,
which will state the total hours of the
course, accredit the participant's attendance,
and reflect the benefit
gained by the participant from the
course.
APPLICATIONS
Candidates should deliver their application to the Registro General
of the University of Granada, Hospital Real, Cuesta de Hospicio
s/n, Granada. It should be addressed to "El Vicerrector de
Investigación y Relaciones Internacionales and be accompanied by a
curriculum vitae containing at least the following information:
- Full name and identity card or passport number.
- Address and telephone number.
- Degree(s) held (at least to the level required in this call for
applications).
- Any other merits, duly warranted, for their evaluation by the
selection committee.
If the candidate also wishes to apply for a grant he/she should
fill in a separate application to be attached to the first,
indicating which type of grant the candidate wishes to apply for,
according to his/her eligibility.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
PLACES: Applications for places on the course can be made from the
date of this convocation until 12.00 a.m., 18 July 1997.
GRANTS: Applications for grants can be made from the date of this
convocation until 12.00 a.m., 30 June 1997.
COST OF THE COURSE
The cost of the course is 100,000 pts.
A list of all candidates who have been awarded a grant will be
published between 7 and 9 July. A list of all candidates who have
been given a place on the course without a grant will be published
between 24 and 28 July. Those participants who do not have a grant
should pay the enrolment fee into la Caja General de la
Universidad, located in the Edificio Administrativo, c/ Santa Lucía
or make a bank transfer to the University of Granada current
account Nº2031-0000-08-0101745071, Caja General de Ahorros, Oficina
Principal, Plaza Villamena s/n, Granada, indicating that it is
payable to "III Curso de Medicina Tropical". Payment must be made
before 5 September, after which time places remaining unpaid
for will be offered to candidates on the waiting list.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The selection committee will take into account:
- The suitability of the candidate's degree.
- Professional experience related to the course content.
- Other merits.

CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS
III INTERNATIONAL COURSE ON TROPICAL MEDICINE
AND PARASITOLOGY
UNESCO CHAIRS - UNIVERSITY OF GRANADA
The following grants are offered to eligible candidates to
attend the III International Course on Tropical Medicine and
Parasitology, organised under the auspices of the UNESCO Chair,
"Tropical Medicine and Parasitology" of the University of Granada:
1) 7 grants funded by UNESCO
a.- These grants are intended for citizens of developing
countries and of the E.I.C who are not residents of any country
belonging to the
European Union.
b.- They are sufficient to cover the attendance fee,
travel, and board and lodgings expenses for the
duration of the course.
II) 10 grants funded by the UNESCO Chair, "Tropical
Medicine and Parasitology", of the University of Granada.
a.- These grants are intended for citizens of
developing countries and of the E.I.C. who are
resident in Spain.
b.- They are sufficient to cover the attendance fee.
III) 5 grants funded by the UNESCO Chair, Tropical
Medicine and Parasitology" of the University of
Granada.
a.- These grants are intended for citizens of
countries belonging to the European Union.
b.- They are sufficient to cover the attendance fee.
EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR THE AWARDING OF GRANTS
1.- FOR APPLICANTS FOR GRANTS IN SECTIONS I AND II
.- A degree in an area related to tropical medicine
and/or parasitology.
.- Adequate curriculum vitae.
.- Professional relationship with the subjects of the
course. In this respect, candidates collaborating
directly with any organisation or institute working
to humanitarian ends will have priority.
.- Other merits.
2.- FOR APPLICANTS FOR GRANTS IN SECTION III
.- A degree in an area related to tropical medicine
and/or parasitology.
.- Hold a doctorate or be taking a doctoral course
in any area related to the subjects of the course.
.- Other merits.
