Two positions, one for a postdoc and one for a PhD student, are available
immediately to investigate genes and cellular components that are
involved in plasmodesmatal targeting and development, as well as in
cell-to-cell communication in plants, by using GFP-tagged tobacco mosaic
virus cell-to-cell movement (Science 270, 1983-1985; Gene 173, 75-79; Plant
J. 10, 1079-1088; Trends Plant Sci. 1, 412-418) as a model system.
Research will be conducted in collaboration with international research
groups. Candidates should have some experience in plant tissue culture and
a strong background in cell biology and molecular biology/biochemistry.
Experience in virology and/or molecular genetics is considered favorably
and any experience in microscopy/microinjection is wellcomed.
The positions will be for a period of 3 years at the Friedrich-Miescher
Institute (Novartis), Basel, Switzerland.
