There is a need to detect numerous plant pathogenic bacteria that are
seedborne. Lately, one that has generated much interest has been
Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli, which causes watermelon fruit blotch.
Because seed companies often are held liable for selling contaminated
seed, there is much interest in detecting such bacteria in seed.
