Most filters will sterilize solutions by retaining microbes. If you
contact Millipore Corp., they can provide some basic text and
illustrations for each of the filters they manufacture, which will include
their mode of action. Some filters will also work by charge separation
and other mechanisms; they can provide this info also. The pharmaceutical
and medical device industries use sterilizing filters for products that
cannot withstand heat sterilization. Hope this helps.
