I'm busy translating the correspondence between Beijerinck and his successor
as Professor of Microbiology in Delft, Kluyver. In 1928, I have Kluyver
promising to grow the cyanobacterium Coelosphaerium kuetzingianum on "gravel
plates". Can anyone tell a puzzled bacteriologist if this is a current
technique (and it's therefore worth asking our library to get me a current
methods book on the cyanobacteria), or something arcane from times gone by?
