We use an electric burner under our inoculation hood and haven't had any
problems.

How can you pick tiny colonies with those big plastic loops? We use them
for urine inoculation only. I would have a hard time using them on the
bench, as it's like using a log instead of a pin to pick colonies,
especially anaerobes.
